THis will be my last post for awhile, New photos anyways, i do have a stockpile of images i have not processed yet. So it appears the shutter has gone out on my Canon 40D, it has just a little over 5600 actuations. I have tried all the tricks and i keep getting a ERR99 on the screen. So i will be getting ahold of Canon to see about rapair, I bought it used with 2000 actuations and no warranty, So does anyone know what it cost to replace the shutter in one of these cameras?
Anyways here's a photo of a young tree swallow......thanks for looking and for your comments
For sure my image was lacking in detail and color, i forgot to turn down the ISO
from 800 to 400 and i struggle with PP on anything above ISO 500, So KarlA asked
if he could have a go at the photo and I think he improved on it nicely appreciate it buddy
not the way it's supposed to be. I'm of the opinion that a 40D should be good for about 150,000 actuations. So this is not good news. That what a Nikon camera of equivalent value is rated for.
A fellow photographer just had hers replaced by Canon and it was around $209 including shipping to the NJ facility. It only took 6 days to get it fixed. She only had about 15,000 on hers...mine went out (under warranty) at around 60K clicks. I guess mine liked abuse.
Hope you get it back soon...it sure felt empty without mine for the 6 days.
Sorry about the shutter Alan. They ought to have a warranty for the number of actuations, you can't abuse a shutter causing it to fail early. Canon can tell how many actuations the camera has.
That is just freaking unbelievable coincidence!! my 40d shutter died at 5500 clicks 2 weeks ago! seems like a dead line for 40d shutters or something
Hey listen Canon should service it even if the camera is not under warranty anymore because they guarantee the shutter at 100k!
So that's the last sparrow ur 40d saw b4 it died

that's a sweet swallow!
Hi Dave, thanks for the info, if it's only a couple of hundred then it's worth fixing, but i may still use this opportunity to upgrade to the 50D

So sorry to hear that Alan, that just sucks.
Nice shot of the swallow, nice clean background, sharp bird.
Tim
Thanks Tim, what really sucks is i found a alittle pool of backup water that was loaded with blue and green herons well within my 400mm range and was planning a trip this morning another day i guess

Good luck in getting the repair done fast & easy.
Lovely swallow.

Hi Lil, thanks for the reply, i believe the 40D's shutter is rated to 100,000, way to early for it to die.
Hopefully it will be back to me without too long a delay

Hi Robert, That sure makes since to me, I believe the life on this model is around 100,000, certinally premature death at where i am at.

Hi Nello, Yes, memorial services will be held Monday well after using the software Karl recommended it shows a little over 28,000 actuations, I was obvisouly lied to, my honesty and trust has always been my weak point
Trust me i am going to work Canon over on the shutter, it never hurts to try sometimes it pays off
Nello, turn around time, at least here on East Coast NJ CSC is about 10 business days door-to-door.
I have years of images not processed yet so like Ron sez^^^^^^^^ check the "closet".
