p.1 #1 · My 3rd Senior session(outside)

These were taken with a 5D using 1 AB1600 with a soft box. It was hot and muggy, but we still had fun. I have been doing sport photography and that is how I have worked my way into school photography. Any helpful commits are greatly appreciated. I hope to get better with each session. My other 2 sessions were mostly in a studio.

Thanks,

Tommy

Hi Tommy,

in my opinion a senoir shoot should show us the personality. Since I don't know your model, take my comment with a grain of salt, ok?

#3 is my favo followed by #7

Some short comments:
#1 is nice, she looks uncomplicated and outdoor minded
#2 I like the idea, she looks a little sad
#3 Love this shot. Like the leaves as a foreground, very feminine leg pose, background is a little tilted
#4 nice smile, pose doesn't do it for me
#5 like the idea, not the cropped of hands
#6 very nice
#7 she really likes to have fun :-)
#8 PP doesn't do it for me, she looks like she is getting cold
#9 nice smile

In total I think you should focus on the interaction. Technical side looks very good.

Just my 2 cents ...

I wonder if you could/should coax a little more detail and light from the shadows of some of these. Just enough to show it's not just a dark blob, in places, but not enough to compete with the model. #1 & #2 almost have a night time feel to them.

Other than that small detail, I like what you produced here and agree with much of Leeuwtje's comments.

#4 is pretty good, but all Images look a bit on the soft side.

Pfiltz--- #3 My favorite also, except for the long feet and leg affect.

Lee-----Thanks for your critique. I looked back at each image and I agree with all your commits. Sports(action, team, and individual) is so much easier for me. The senior was fun to work with and she said she had fun. She is a tomboy and wanted something different outside. I had to talk her into some studio shots before we went to the creek.
The water was a little cool, but the day was in the high 90's.

Jim-----I set my camera to the back ground on several shots and let the strobe light take care of the foreground. Maybe LR will bring back light and detail to the back ground.

John----Thanks for looking

Phillip----I haven't sharpened these yet. My first opinion was they were ok to post. I took over 250 pictures in her hour and 30 min session.

Thanks, I look a lot lately, but don't commit much. I am pretty new at portrait work and most usually all I can say is I love all of them. That don't help the guys out on this board. I hope I get good enough to be able to help someone, someday soon.

I like number 3 as well except I guess to me i would prefer to see the eyes in connection with the hat as I'm guessing that particular hat serves some significance to her.

Nice series but I never get the model in water with clothes on shots. The checkered outfit really dominates those shots (sure there was nothing you could do about that).

+ 1 on wanting to see the eyes in #3.

Many of them are very soft - maybe so soft you wont really be able to sharpen enough in PP.
