p.1 #1 · Some real world E-P1 shots

Hey folks,

Thought some might be interested in seeing these. My E-P1 arrived yesterday as we were off to nearby Cooperstown NY for a visit to the Farmer's Museum and Baseball Hall of Fame. I took quite a few shots with the E-P1, shot super fine jpg and RAW. I'm still working through the RAW files in Studio but thought some might like to see the superfine jpg output. Many of the Hall of Fame shots are ISO 1600 and handheld in low light. The noise filter was set to low. I'm pretty impressed with the IS given the slow shutter speeds.

When I first used my Olympus E330 a while back, the first thing that jumped out at me was how good the color was compared to even my Canon 5D. In my opinion and for whatever reason, Olympus really seems to nail the out of camera color response with their software/hardware.

Looks very promising!

How did the AF treat you?

Hopefully the 17mm kits will be in soon. I've had mine on pre-order since day one.

I like the tonality of the images, especially the second. I assume this was with the zoom kit lens; how was the overall handling experience for you?

Thanks guys. The camera handles very well with the 14-42 kit lens. The E-P1 body feels very solid in the hand and the combo with the kit lens feel just about right, especially for carrying in the hand. My 17mm lens shipped yesterday so I'll update with my impressions once it arrives next week.

The AF in good light is plenty quick enough and even in the low light of the baseball hall of fame I didn't really experience hunting. Mostly the AF was quite quick indoors as well.

Just remembered that the crop factor on these is about 2x. That's kind of a bummer to someone thinking about using some Leica wides.

I guess a 35 'lux "becomes" a portrait lens, but I would think it loses a good bit of its charm.
