OK, but both ACR and CS2 have noise reduction filters and multiple tries using each of them did not give me better results than the duplicate jpeg files.
I thought that RAW/DNG files were supposed to give superior results when it comes to reducing noise? Apparently not, if all you have is CS2.
I'll install the Nikon software when I have time, but I'm really close to giving up on these RAW files. I've tried multiple times to use it over the years, but each time I just get discouraged. Pulling those 16bit DNG files into CS2 took forever. And my Macbook Pro isn't exactly slow, either!

The noise reduction built into ACR and CS2 is lacking to say the least. The Nikon in camera noise reduction will be better (as you see in the jpeg files).
The problem is that Adobe can not read all of the RAW data from the Nikon files so some of it gets ignored (like picture controls, noise reduction, etc.)
If you want to get serious about noise reduction you need to look into Dfine by Nik software or Noise Ninja.
