T-bone1: I find the image processing interesting in these fun photos. They seem a little gritty and edgy. The color one works better because of the contrast between the hat and the ceiling. Try bringing down the highlights above the hat in the b&w version for more impact.
If you had taken this photo outside, in a grassy area, viewers could easily image the subject cavorting on a funny farm.
Great idea on the highlights above me. I'll give that a whirl. I really do go back and consider advice given here.
Regarding the gritty processing, I was trying to back it off for a while. I spent considerable time reworking many of the images. It's funny though how reactions went. Photographers seemed to prefer the smoother images, but everyone else liked them WAY overcooked. So anyway, I'm trying to get a middle ground, so to speak. After they've been posted here, for the most part it's the non-photogs who will be seeing them, so I guess I've kind of decided to lean toward pleasing that eye a bit more.
I'm glad you mentioned the location, too. I actually planned to do this at a horse ring where contests are held. I decided against it since I originally planned to wear whitey-tightey's instead of shorts. Not a good idea for an outside shoot! Changed my mind at the last minute, and went with a child's room instead. Gotta retain SOME self-dignity! haha!
