For some reason this was a really tough one. The color versions were easy but the B & W was quite a project. I'm not entirely convinced it worked. All comments are, as always, greatly appreciated.
I just added yet another alternate - a tighter crop that does away with the problem of having inadvertently cropped out the bottom with my close up lens. This may turn out to be the one.
June 30 - I don't know why I didn't think of this before! I just added this alternative crop in the third position. To my eyes it is clearly the best and incorporates what I like from both shots without being too busy. Much better. I think you'll all agree.
Another wonderful BW floral. It reminds me of a cross between a water lily and an artichoke, yet it has some sea urchin in there, too. So fascinating how BW makes you see these things more objectively. Quite a magnificent series you have here.
You've certainly convinced me Endre. Personally I like the second more, but would have preferred it even more had it had a bit more room on the bottom. Amazing conversions though, wow.
Thank you, Bev, my dear friend! As always, you kind comments about my photos mean a lot.
Fond regards,
Endre

Thanks, Paul. I'm glad you like them. I personally prefer the second one more but one of the reasons I wasn't entirely convinced by it was the very reason you pointed out - lack of space at the bottom. I didn't really have any to work with. Anyway, thanks to your comment, i spent a little time creating a little space that wasn't there to start with and now I think it looks better. I still may wind up using the top one for my series but, at least, now I can compare two finished photos to one another.
All the best,
Endre

I'm so happy you're posting these here. It always gives me an "alright!" moment when I see your name next to a new posting.
I actually prefer the second one. I don't mind the lack of space at the bottom.
While the first shot is outstanding as well, my preference would be to have just a little bit less open space on the left.
The second shot is just a bit more "spectacular!"
That's the opinion of the amateur here...

Thanks a lot! so glad you like it! It seems that the general favorite is the second one. I'm going to make it even more difficult by posting a tighter crop as a third alternative.
All the best,
Endre

As always, stunning, I like the second one best of the two but would settle for either.
Thank you so much, Tim. Your comments are always so kind. Much appreciated, indeed! You have a very good eye - amateur or not - and your helpful hints have already helped me with these shots. I thought that the second shot cropped would focus more attention on the interesting stuff going on n the middle of the flower so i just posted that. It may turn out to be the one I ultimately use.
All best wishes,
Endre

Startling pictures Endre. I prefer the first one above the others, but all of them are just incredibly well done.
I am real happy that you keep posting these images here.
Thank you so much, Lazlo, my friend. As you can no see from the third shot, I re-cropped the first one and finally came up with what it should be. I feel a little dumb that I didn't think of it earlier since it is such an obvious solution.
I'm so glad you are enjoying these.
Warm regards,
Endre

I forgot about that one, but there are many varieties, I was thinking of one that has lots of little curly things, like a big ball. I think you have to look in a flkower shop miostly for those.
I got this one at a flower show and i know the ones you are talking about. They call them something different at the flower store. I think this may be the one I go with but if I find one of those curly ones that I find attractive (they look a little to "deserty" to me) I'll try a shot of them. I need to find one of those cactus flowers you suggested. They are magnificent.
All the best,
Endre

You made a difficult capture look just gorgeous all 3 are very worthy but for me #2 stands out the best just getting the right angle and the right combination of subject matter and background in your crop, very nice
