p.1 #1 · Rubber coming off zoom ring

I just purchased a used Nikon 28-70/2.8 lens from someone (not on the B&S board - which was probably a mistake), and much to my dismay the rubber part of the zoom ring comes right off and slides around at time while trying to zoom. Is there a way to re-adhere that rubber ring to the zoom ring without causing damage to the lens? I'm worried about using glue or anything of the sort for fear of it seeping into the zoom ring itself and fouling it all up - any other ideas?

is it really bad? The zoom rubber on my 17-35 was completely separated and I could remove it easily, but while zooming it was not a problem at all. Just grab it firmly and twist.

Lay a layer of double sided tape(foamtype) in the groove and thern put back the rubber ring. In the first two weeks it is thick, but that disappears.

Just order one from Nikon Parts (310) 414-8107. I doubt they cost much.

I think it just needs to be circumcised.

I caught mine doing the same thing, but only when it's snowing. Otherwise it's good and tight. You aren't somewhere very cold at the moment? I wouldn't try to fix it if cold is the issue, but probably best to do something if it's slipping under normal circumstances...

Funny I should find this.
Mine started on the same lens just a couple of days ago, I initially put it down to the heat and humidity, that and the fact that I always tend to handle the camera around there between my thumb and forefinger when picking it up or laying dit down.
The rubber on my copy seems to have seated back in place, after I pressed it down on the raised edges and chased it around the circumference a little while holding it either side of the raised edge.
The advise regarding double sided tape is good and I'll be looking at that when and if it happens again.
