p.2 #2 · Monopod or Non-monopod that is the question.
I only use my monopod with my 400/2.8. Anything shorter I handhold and anything longer I use the Wimberley II. I even handhold the 400 sometimes if I have to.
p.2 #3 · Monopod or Non-monopod that is the question.
I handhold my 300F2.8 IS with or without the 1.4 for everything but football. It is the only sport I use my monopod for, and the only reason I do is that I mount the flash on it down low. I also handhold my second body 1DsMKII and 70-200.

p.2 #9 · Monopod or Non-monopod that is the question.
I have never used a monopod with the 70-200 IS when shooting sports, I just feel that it gets in the way. When using my 500mm during a recent Nascar race I found it was also much easier to handhold, than to use a monopod with it. But I was only using it 25% of the race which helped.
