This shot I tried to emulate the grain in Tri-X using LR3s grain feature to match a silver gelatin print I made in a film class. Not a great attempt. The original was actually a very clean file without noise.

chrisnyee, stunning pics dude! i gotta admit i want a D1H or D1X someday for more creative oriented not in a hurry photography. sorry to digress but i gotta ask, do you prefer the D1H over the D1X and if so, why?

Thanks for looking and the feedback!
To be honest I've never really shot around with a D1X, but I will say the D1H has some stunning files for a 2.7 MP camera. I has very clean high iso shots too, much better than the D2H.

chrisnyee, looking forward to my days with a D1X or D1H... awe heck, truth be known I will probably own both of them someday as I still have a soft spot in my heart for the old battle axe Nikon film cameras too. Well, at least there are worse maladies to have in this world or so I keep telling myself.
So I lied, found another of my favs taken six weeks after I got my first D2H and the venerable Nikkor 80-200 f/2.8 AFD push pull zoom lens. After reviewing my pics from this beach trip I realized that many shots were out of focus on moving kids. I think the handwriting is clearly on the wall now that I would do much better with a 80-200 f/2.8 AFS or the 70-200 f/2.8 VR1 or VR2.

Gaylon, very enjoyable pics with the rock chuck (prairie dog, squirrel?) and the dragon fly really catching my eye. I am curious what 300mm lens you were using for these?
