As I am awaiting 1:30 to roll around when I can go pick up my adapter from the post office, I was looking forward to tring out the adapter. yes It has the weakness that the EF lens can only be shot wide open, but that was okay. But this morning I remembered a 2nd weakness and that is with some older EF lens you can not focus unless there is power from the camera. I forgot about this, so it will limit its use with these. Darn I was looking forward to the 200 1.8 and 50 1.0 on the Pany. Oh well I'll just have to preset to Inifinity in advance or carry along an EOS body just to set distance.

Aside from that I am looking forward to the adapter even with its shortcomings.

So are there any other FMers using the Pany G1 planning on getting the adapter, as limited as it will be?

if you are carrying around an eos body to set focus, wouldnt it make sense to just shoot using the eos body?

I have a Rayqual m4/3 adapter and am "watching" the EOS/G1 adapter from jinfinance on eBay. I'm currently waiting to learn more about the new Olympus, I guess.

As I am so strongly in the alternate gear, manual focus EOS world, it matters little to me about lack of aperture control on EF lenses. Other than the fact that it can be done, I'm not sure how practical it will be to put a Rokkor 58, FD85L, my EOS mount M Tele Elmar 135, on the G1 type camera, with the weight and crop factor issues. My M 50 Summicron and M 90 Elmarit take care of that range.

My concern is the short end on a mFT camera. My EOS/Leica R 28 could give a good effective 56mm FOV, and being retrofocus, should give non-muddy corners, but the lens will weight more than the camera. In the less than normal FOV, all roads seem to lead back to the anticipated 20mm/1.7.

I look forward to your assessment.

I got my eos lens mount to m4/3 adapter to stack other adapters I already own.

Like Nikon, Olympus OM, Pentax K, Pentax screw, tamron adaptall2

I'm still not positive I'll get a GH1. The more I read at video shooter sites the more it seems they still prefer the video cameras over any HD Dslr, including GH1 preproduction samples already tested, 5D Mark II and jello effects Nikon D90. Using the line, "if its a paying gig, I use my Dvideo gear".

m4/3 mount gear looks like fun. Would be nice to use my FD glass with that adapter I bought too. I bought the c mount adapter also to be able to control aperture on Nikon G 14-24mm 2.8 via nikon F-C adapter.

I'm wondering if m4/3 has become a big distraction for me? I've only dropped $410 on various adapters for m4/3 so its more time reading and wondering than cash outlays.

I know now I won't drop $1500 at issue for GH1 and I won't drop $699 on G1.

Been shopping for a new laptop instead to replace my old XP machine before it dies. Its gotten flakey lately... & its amazing what $750 will get me thesedays.

Plus I own no video edit software and no HD Dslr maker includes editing software:

m4/3 feels like a big pit I'd need to throw alot of coin into.

So I'm pretty certain I may skip m4/3 and sell, sell, sell everthing I'm keeping for its aquisition, since I first read of G1. Like FD lenses, FL lenses, all my adapters, ect. Time to streamline my gears not expand them.

I'm kind, of interested in one. Mostly as an option to allow me to mount converted lenses.

The G1's been good to me so far and I'm mostly using adapted lenses now (the Tamron 28/2.5 and Zeiss 50/1.4 Planar are my two favourites). More options for it would be nice as I'm currently limited to M42, Contax and Nikon mounts along with m43 and 4/3rds. That said I think Leica M and Pentax K mount adapters will be coming along before any EOS mounts.

I'd also be interested in an Sony/Minolta A-mount adapter.

I already have one, inhand & confirmed nice tight and click lock fit to all my other eos mount adapters also bought from RJ in Shanghi:

M42 pentax to eos

pentax k to eos

olympus OM to eos

nikon non ai, ai, ais to eos

My original issue Tamron adaptall 2 adapters are too tight to fit eos to m4/3. I did not want to adjust the lugs as like like the fit with my other adapters. Jinfinance used to offer a adaptall2 to eos in brass I bought prior and it fits real nice. thesedays he offers this in aluminum, but I like my brass one I got from him.

So with this I can add adaptall2 to eos and thus to m4/3.

I'm set & (((Now))) I don't think I'll buy GH1. Weird huh?

You don't have to shoot wide open. With the EF lens on an EOS body, set the aperture to your desired stop, push the DOF preview button, keep pushing the DOF preview button as you dismount the lens from the EOS body, and voilà - it's done.

Thanks for the tip

I usually have a 5D with me when shooting Pany so this really opens up the world for me. My tests will have to wait until Saturday or Sunday, it started raining this afternoon.

the tests today before the rain, was with the Sigma 70mm F2.8 macro, 14 mkII ands 17 TS, but the lighting in the park left little to be desired and I didn't have a tripod with me, So in the end the results weren't good mainly because of camera shake and just didn't nail the focus wide open.

I'm one of the two voting No...

Simply becaus I don't really know what EOS lens I would like to use with my G1.

I do have tried a lot of lenses with the G1. Some of them have worked fine, some have performed not very well, some have been stellar. But, to me the µ4/3 system is mainly about size and weight. Slapping the, often, quite big EF mount lenses to the G1 is therefor a contradiction to me.

If it then is taken a further step (carrying an EOS camera to set the aperture) I don't see the point at all. Maybe there is one with very long focal lengths? But... no, it seems easier to just use some other lens.

Things might change if somebody make an adapter with a completely functioning electronic interface between the G1 and the EOS lens.

I have bought one. Just because it makes sense to be able to use my Contax, Leica, Olympus and Nikon lenses on the projected Pen EP1 I will buy shortly after release. Makes much more sense than buying Pen F lenses or Leica M lenses and adapting them...

Seeing as I already have EOS adapters, it makes sense to adapt EOS to m4/3.
So I'll get the 17mm Oly or 20mm Panny lens (whichever looks better) and use my adapted lenses for everything else. Perfect.

This only applies to the older lens 50 1.0, 200 1.8.

But yes as you say it makes sense to just shoot on an EOS body but that defeats the fun of experimentation and trying something different. It may not be an ideal solution but hey if one wants to go outside of the box and try one of these on a 2:1 crop Pany you got do what you gotta do.

I got some shots today with the 50 F1.0 I used F11 by setting aperture on the Canon first and unmount using the Depth of Feild Preview. Thanks again for the tip.

I also set the hyperfocal distance, there was definitely softness and smearing on the edges. Next I will need to try a lens that I can set focus on.

The adapter seems fine to work with but as Lindy mentioned it is tight when mounting/dismounting the lens.

The lens release button I find a little weak first it is small and sometimes you think you are pushing it but it doesn't engage, second I am concerned it may break off (but it does seem strong). Other than that it is a good build. I also look forward to trying my Oly on it.

Good to know eos made glass fits it. I didn't want to force mine. Did you try closing the lugs down with pliers? You could reopen them with a screw driver.

I'm not sure I'll try mount eos to it as I got it as a stacker adapter. The fits real nice with adapter mounted to it and clicks real nice too.

I'm still taking a break from GH1. I need a new computer. a new fridge, and my 51 year old furance should be replaced, I assume. I'm glad i got the adapters seeing how i talked RJ into making the FD ones last year. I owed him an order. I wish someone locally carried panasonic m4/3 to help convince me to spring for a GH1 or G1.

Terrific tip for me. I have the adaptor on its way--primarily to use an old Lensbaby I never used on my EF bodies--and to use my 45 TSf/2.8--though I knew I would only be able to use it wide open. Now--you say--I can use it otherwise (though wide open would be comparable to f/5.6 anyhow). Not sure I would use any other lenses with it--but did try my 50 f/1.4 in front of my G1 (using the FD adaptor to help offset flange length a bit). I have several primes that I might like--but then I have FD lenses and a Konica also, so don't know if I'll bother. But--to use the TS will be nice--I'm guessing shooting with it with MF assist will be 'wunderbar'.

I totally agree in theory with this, but I've been wanting to shoot with a T/S on the G1 (and I have an old Lensbaby EF mount that might be fun occasionally), so decided to try it. I doubt I would shoot with any other EF mount--but may try the smaller primes. The 45 TS will be big, unwieldy, but to use it with MF assist as opposed to either manual focus with 5D or the anglefinder C 'should' be interesting. I've considered buying the FD 35 f/2.8 TS--but this may work as well. I don't usually carry my 5D with me when I have the G1, but may stick in the smaller 400D if I'm carrying the TS.

Did I read above that you have the 17 TS

That should b e just right on the G1--esp. if the tip above for setting aperture works. Probably be able to get by with setting it and leaving it--if that's possible.

I'm also going to try my small Sigma 15 f/2.8 FE--might be worthwhile.

But this is about the one case where an EOS->µ4/3 adapter is warranted, isn't it?

OTOH I can fully understand what you say about experiment and see what comes out from it. I guess you can read from my previous post that i don't have any T+S lens...

Found today two other minor issues with the adapter. The release button digs into the weather sealing, does not damage it but does dig into it. 2nd there is a little free play on the Panasonic side of the adapter. I noticed this when I went to focus and the adapter moved just a tiny amount.

No problems with mounting a Leica R adapter, Nikon G adapter or Nikon Non G adapter to the EOS adapter. They fit nice and snug.

Yes it will stay at the aperture you set until mounted on an EF body again. I set it to F11 on all my EF lens will shooting. I am still very grateful for the tip by jcolwell.

I was going to take my EF 15mm FE but decided on the Sigma Circular FE instead.

Got mine from jinfinance today. The lens to adapter side fits beautifully. DOn't have a body yet, so don't know about the body side or infinity, but it looks nicely made. It's a bit bigger that I had thought it would be. A standard lens starts to look like a short telephoto with the adapter...
