The other day the B&H Used Photo Gear Department gave me the incredible opportunity to make a LensCoat for the one of the longest and rarest full auto focus lenses in the world. It was quite an experience working with a lens that when in it's case wouldn't fit in the back of my 4Runner without putting the seats down. Of course I told B&H that it was extremely critical that I field test the LensCoat to make sure it performs properly . With my insurance agent standing close by I deftly maneuvered this 38in long 36.4lb monster around my backyard in search of worthy subjects (birds and bunnies.) It's a good thing the 5dmk2 I borrowed had a camera strap on it.

This lens doesn't come with IS or DI (Image Stabilization or Disability Insurance) so I soon opted for a a sturdy tripod.

Scott...Have you set a price yet for the 1200mm LensCoat and will you offer it in the other varieties (i.e., Digital Camo, Canon White, etc.)

Scott, I think that you may need to inform B&H that substantially more testing is required and you may need to hold onto the lens for a few more months in order to guarantee that the lenscoat is just right, of course.

You are a lucky man!

Probably a pretty high demand for those coats..

I did laugh at Alistair's response. I almost couldn't see it either!

Joking aside, I'm guessing it's for B&H to throw in with the lens as a special deal like they do for the 500mm for example?

It was $89,579 when it came out in July 1993. Since being discontinued several years ago, the price has got up significantly. This one is at B&H for a cool $120,000.

I'm sorry Scott, but this is a sadly misnamed post. It's not handholding, it's shoulder humping the 1200mm.
