I think you need to check your shoes or the length of your legs, because one may be slightly longer than the other . There is a slight tilt to almost all of these But they are still good despite of that. I think the first 3 are stronger than the rest of the set.

The first one is my favorite, and I feel that #4 is the weakest. The model facing left while the majority of the space being on the right can be used to create "tension" or "resistance", but the model doesn't really express it and the flare doesn't really contribute to that feeling so it just ends up feeling awkward. Not only that but the line going down her neck to her shoulder looks funny, probably because it is far too straight. Women are curvy, it's why we like them. Make them curve

#1 is good, I like the composition

#3 is cool due to the orange background

#4 cool flare! What lens did you use?

#5 how do you not get blown highlights shooting directly under the sun?

#7 is good, but would like to see the heels too...

Love your work as usual! Thanks for sharing! I really want a 5D!

Thanks guys!

poison and JHerr - It's not me, the sensor in my camera is crooked You're right though, I wonder why I always tilt to one side??

SoCalHaze - both of those were on purpose, but thanks!

4honor - thanks for the breakdown. I believe all of these were shot with my Olympus Zuiko 50/1.4. As for the highlights, I just metered so that I didn't get any blown and then did a little post work to make things look the way I wanted them to.

Number 3 and number 6 are super. I also enjoy your processing. My only real gripe is I'm seeing the same side of her face in every shot.

Very nice, would you share your experience when shoting opposite of light, metting mode, fill flash, blar, blar... and final behind the sense of these pics, hi, hi.

Thanks for the responses.

Robert - You're right, I didn't even notice that!

CunCoi - No special stuff going on here! I used the regular evaluative metering, and just adjusted the exposure so that I got enough light on her. I didn't use any flash in any of these, all natural light only (and no reflectors either). I don't have any setup shots, since there really wasn't any setup!

Okay. After all those nice pats on the back, here's the truth, as I see it of course. And after all, who am I? I'm only one.
First of all, they are all exceedlingly lifeless. That colors everything else you judge it on.

1. Soft and needs more contrast with that angle to the sun, and a filler would help that, too. The pose is not flattering at all. Looks like nobody cares what she's doing or what she looks like.
2. The only thing sharp is her hair. Flat, even lighting doesn't flatter her. The angle of her head makes her eyes look funny. Doesn't show lashes, in particular. Little things, but adds up overall
3. No smile on any. She needs it. Looks like how's this pose? Or this one? Her hair looks dead black like a silhouette. Do you really think that extra space on our left adds to the pic? It doesn't help her at all.
4. Underexposed a little, and there's that awful space behind her again. Why?
5. A good pose, for a change, but the light is too harsh and unflattering. Is that shadow on the left supposed to be exciting? Or what? Or don't you think she can carry the pic by herself?
6. The light is almost flat, and a static pose, so I guess that laughable space on the right gives us something interesting to look at?
7. Huge sky overhead catches most of the attention for a second. Then your eye runs down that bridge. Oh yes, there's the model...
You ought to apply some of the indoor skills you display on Twitter with your outdoor work. Or practice a lot more out there.
Yeah, I know I'm harsh in what I've said, but I can always hope that a little of it will rub off. Hope springs eternal, somebody said. C'mon, take it the way I meant it--It's what I see that can easily be improved. A combination of pose, flat light, and framing makes these less than admirable, in spite of the rash of flattering opinions before me. To any professional who is honest, these are common, ordinary, amateur snapshots with the girl next door. If that hurts, I really am sorry. But it might spur you to do better. Start by looking at other professional shots and try to emulate, just for practice. That means, find a girl that is attractive to start with. (It helps enormously) THen look at poses, in context. In other words, how the pose relates to the intent. A pretty girl in a provacative pose is reason enough, but it doesn't look it's best without appropriate lighting and framing. A space on one side or the other doesn't do her or you any favors. It just divides attention, and is boring as hell.

Laundromat shots can get cliche, but you make it fly with 3. Very cool.

My gripe tho is that the model keeps giving the same bored look in every shot.

Thanks for the replies!

josh - thanks, I liked those as well.

MrAdventure - I know that flare is not everyone's thing (and that it seems to be used a lot on here lately) but it's something that I am experimenting with and I appreciate your thoughts.

geofan - thanks! Again, experimenting with different processing on some of these

pilles - I really appreciate you taking the time to give an honest critique. While I do disagree with some of the points that you made (since some of the things you pointed out were intentional decisions by me), they are all noted and you did make some good points. Again, thanks for the critique.

transoptic - I agree with you on the model having the same expression. This was her second time posing for anyone (and the first time was with me), so it's more my fault than hers for not directing her enough. I am very bad when it comes to posing and the like, so that's an area that I really need to improve (but don't really know how to do so). In the past, I've just let the models "do their thing" and for someone as inexperienced as her, that means a lot of the same looks. So yeah, my fault for sure.

I think they are great shots. Yes, change the direction she's looking every once in a while, but as far as the whole empty space thing, it's fine.
But #3 made me laugh because it made me think she has not pants on cuz she was waiting for them to dry!
