p.1 #1 · Anyone doing 'Green' Weddings?

I was just approached about being a possible vendor for a new wedding location that wants to do 'Green' weddings. They are a self-supporting organic farm and have a wonderful property with some great facilities. They want to partner up with vendors who do everything from a recycled and organic perspective.

Anyone else have any experience with Brides wanting a 'green' wedding and the things they wanted the most (maybe having a good scratch in a hemp dress)? Other than driving a hybrid, using recycled paper and soy based inks for correspondence printing and perhaps donating to charities, what else can a photographer offer to make them attractive to that sort of setup?

There's a new album company that makes green albums... if I can remember who it is, I'll post the link. It was all reclaimed cover materials and such.

p.1 #9 · Anyone doing 'Green' Weddings?

Hey Martin. I recently attended an wedding vendors' meeting that focuses on education and bettering the community and at our last meeting we had Mya Navarro, author of Green Wedding. She was very informative and I like the fact that she stayed very simple and not political about being green.
I'm no tree hugger, I'm not a hippie, and I don't really buy all of this man-made global warming stuff...but I do believe in being conscious about consumption and waste. I'm currently constructing a "green option" for my clients where they will have a totally paperless contract/billing/info process and their albums/prints will be manufactured by some high-end green vendors that I use. Also, I'm working on some blog posts to share some great ideas for brides like: sending your flowers to a hospital after the wedding, taking leftovers to a rescue mission, etc. I think it is more about being smart as opposed to "trying to save the planet." Give me a shout if you need to. Good luck.

Great information. Thanks Scott and 'McGrattan.'

Scott... I guess her name is Mireya and I found the site about the book. I'll check it out and pass on any info to the location vendor I talked to. Here's a link to the book site if anyone is interested:

Now back to finding a tripod and lightstand made out of recycled bicycle parts for Jeremy

Give the couple your images on CD-RWs. They can reuse them in ten years to send their divorce contracts back and forth to each other! =8^O

I sometimes wear bamboo fabric socks too!

For fear of bringing up a new post on this subject, I thought I would resurrect this topic.

Like Scott, I am not an environmentalist, but I do feel strongly that we should be good stewards of the earth. For us, that means trying not to waste paper, getting as good gas mileage as possible, buying used equipment when I can, using rechargeable batteries, CFL lights (we prefer polluting with mercury, teehee), etc. etc. I have also fallen in love with Wild Magnolia Design albums and some local recycled paper companies and I've considered either offering a Green wedding line or simply making our signature items "green" while allowing options for the non-green items.

I don't plan to use this to gain more clients, so I'd rather just phase in greener products and not really advertise that we are going green. It's just something I feel pretty strongly about. I'd love to hear others' experiences.

That said, I don't have a green product line for things like:

prints
canvases
CD cases
etc.

Recommendations?
