p.1 #1 · D3 Firmware and AF Performance

Just picked up a D3 and have been shooting single point AF in continuous high speed mode. All daytime sports have been perfect. However, the other night I shot a Phillies game under the lights and AF felt more squirrelly. I thought that I had change AF lock on which I had set to standard.

I've read a few comments here and there that many D3 users found that firmware 2.0 made AF a little more jumpy and have downgraded to the previous firmware version as a result. Does anyone know anything about this and if it's true is there a link to the previous firmware?

That's the first I've heard of 2.0 being jumpy. I would never downgrade firmware versions. 2.0 improved AF in low light conditions and vignette.

A few guys had posted over on Sportsshooter.com that AF performance seemed more sensetive in low-light after upgrading to 2.0. Several had said that they went back to the previous version. What I surprisingly didn't read is anyone who tried simply changing AF sensitivity settings which would seem logical if it suddenly felt more sensitive.

Have you tried opening up to 9 or 21 points to help in the low light?

Sorry, just read a post over on Sportsshooter.com and turns out that it's firmware 2.01 that seems to have improved low light AF performance but made bright light and high contrast shooting a bit more sensitive. Will probably download 2.01, save 2.0 to a CF card and try the new firmware just to see if there is a discernible difference.

Steve,

Glad you have figured it out. I assumed you meant 2.01.
