Just saw B&H has the D3X at a discount. About $680 off retail.

Interesting to say the least...

Now is the time to make that big purchase!!!!

This economy coupled with the ridiculous price of the D3X, its no wonder that they are not selling many of those. I am still waiting to see if Nikon offers any rebate on them. I know it will not be soon, but it should be sometime.

Cameta was selling this camera for around $7K on fleabay. Cameta has a great reputation there and they are an authorized Nikon USA dealer, BTW. You can get $200 cashback through live.com and you would pay only $6,800.00.... But I am waiting for the D700x though .

and hopefully it will not be 24Mpix but rather some 16-18 with even better iso performance and price just gently touching D700

Another $800 and I'll probably talk myself into a second body. Well worth the price if you ask me!

A D700x would be an interesting companion for it though - a nice lightweight camera with the same sensor. Great for hikes (I'm not looking forward to the D3x while backpacking)...

I like the option of being able to add a battery grip on a fairly small camera body and not built-in permanently ala D700. I don't need the firing speed of the D3x and I would like to keep the battery/charger the same. Why Nikon didn't put in the sensor cleaning system in the D3x is beyond me though.... .

sjms,
You are correct, somehow I was thinking of the D3 when I typed that....

Yeah, but can you imagine how slow a D700x would be if you think the D3x is slow? Take a picture, go get some coffee, take a picture....

you know i sort of was wondering about that too. but then i thought again in that it only works on minor issues of dust and on the D3 thats one less potential systematic failure

i wouldn't call the d700 lightweight. hopefully the cameras have reached their pinnacle of mass, and the next bunch will start a downward trend in weight loss.

Just saying lightweight compared to a D3x.

I SHOULD just take my D300 and a 16-85 backpacking, but I love all those juicy pixels in the D3x...
