I only wish there was a decent copy of the FL 55 in the mix. i really can't believe how well mine performs. Unfortunately its t-stop is probably closer to 1.6 than 1.2 but other than that...
I agree... I keep getting fantastic results from the FL.

of the 8, I prefer the second to the left, upper row one the best. Thanks for doing this! I hope it is fun having so many different renderings available at hand.
Edit--I guess I like the FD 50mm 1.2. Funny-I don't remember seeing the lens ID's the first time I looked.
The CA control in the FD 1.2 is very impressive. Far better than the others
I have both the Pentax and Rokkor myself. How difficult is it to convert the FD 50 1.2? Which version of the FD 50 1.2 ?
Dimitri, great comparisons! Have you tried the 55mm fd ssc aspherical? I hear good things from leica guru erwin puts, I'm considering it either to adapt to my rangefinder or to modify for eos. My mirror is around 2.5mm shaved, what would you suggest? Thanks
Daniel, i have not tried fd 55 1.2 ssc asph, but it should be more or less similar to fd 50 1.2L (sharp and contrasty wideopen) i know Convert1 has one with 5D (his page http://www.flickr.com/photos/convert1/page8/ )
My conclusion on the most recent group (55-58); the Konica 57 and Minolta 58 really do perform incredibly as substitutes for the very expensive Noct-Nikkor. The Noct will always have the advantage with point light sources at night, but that's really the only ace up its sleeve. The Rokkor's advantage over the Konica is compatibility; they both require conversion, but the Konica requires a much heavier mirror shave on one's 5D.
Later I'll have to compare these all to the 50s, too...
Thanks again! I think I have almost chosen which one I will get.
EDIT:
After a quick look at the 50s, it is easy for me to see that the only 50 that compares favorably to the Konica 57, Rokkor 58 and Noct 58, regarding bokeh, is the EF 50L. The EF 50L also seems to have more DOF than the 55-58 group (which makes sense, of course).
The kind of funny thing here, is staring into the faces of all those lenses, like little school children - all types of "fit and finish" and "exterior design" - and various names etched in from all the manufacturers.
But once you turn them on the side, I chuckle to see them all wearing "Canon" diapers (lens caps)
Cableaddict, Konica AR 57 1.2 on 5D with infinity focus - yes it it is quite challenging task - but the recipe is the same - more mirror shaving and some trimming inside the 5D mirror box
wayne seltzer, check Convert1 flckr page for the samples/ If you need infinity - yes you need to trimm the mirror and of course you can position the rear lens floating element in the position when the mirror would not hit but focus would be about 5-10 meters.
Am I the only one that noticed the mamiya 645 with 85L attached?!
All i can say is WOW dimitry. You never run out of impressive mod's to do!
Definitely one of the crazier things I've seen lately, along with some guy who modified his holga to take EF lenses (why oh why bother..)
Is the mamiya going to be shooting medium format film cropped square (with heavy vignette I dont doubt) or digital or even 35mm film? quite an interesting idea
