p.1 #1 · Zion Scapes

Visited Zion last week. Probably not the *best* time to go, since river water is low and plants/leaves are not out yet, but was still nice. First shot is a weeping wall along the river walk. Next are your classic Zion shots taken pretty much in mid-day (I know not your best time, but I was taking a guest through the park at the same time) and are not as dramatic as they might be at sunrise/sunset. Anyway, enjoy.

My eyes are not great ( touch color blind) but the blue in the sky in 2nd, 3rd looks off - not blue. The greens look subdued.

As you noted, the time of day is not ideal.

None of the 3 have great composition.

1 does not have a central focus and everything has equal weigth. I think you need to pick a feature (like big rock right) and make other stuff complement it.

2 has trees chopped off on bottom, a mountain that seems truncated on right and dark shadows intruding. Closer in or further out would be much better.

3 for me is the best composition but would be better with a tree all in and close up front and mountains behind. As is the composition seems a bit square and not dramatic for me.

Thanks for sharing this great spot. Scott

Hey Terri,

Some nice views of Zion. That weeping wall is cool, though I think I would totally crop out that boulder on the right, I think it takes away from the wall. In #2 and 3 I think I would have backed off of the polarizer a bit more. They both look pretty nice for mid day, though in #2 you might want to adjust the mid-tones down just a little more to give some depth the rock faces. And #3 looks pretty nice.

Jim
