I am increasingly becoming interested in alt lenses for my 5D (maybe 5D2) in the near future. This lens always seems to come up in conversations.

I am curious to see what you are all doing with this lens!

Post em if you got em! (or if there is another thread where I can see them, let me know).

this lens is super interesting, things can be milky smooth but in any highlights it the bokeh goes bonkers!

only if you don't shoot wide open. Wide open there is little manipulation of the bokeh. The girl is a good example, as I would put money on the fact that it was shot at 2.8. and second is 2.0 and the third is wide open. It just depends on what you want to get out of it.

I'l Second that.
Really nice work. Its great to see people actually taking professional images with this lens rather than just mucking around with bokeh

I finally converted my metal grip rokkor. It is nowhere near infinity but I am happy still. I like the Nikkor 50/1.2 Ai-s but I LOVE the Rokkor.

Here is a few from today. My wife has a 200 year old violin that had to stand model.

Some great oldies, the leaf shot is particularly stunning. The violin shots are beautiful. A worthy lens for such a model

Anden, just curious, for the close ups, were you using extension tubes?

Wrong, I shot all those shots wide open.

Will this lens clear the mirror of a 5D or 5D MarkII? I don't have any problems with the mirror of the 1D series but I just ordered a 5D MarkII and would like to know before hand whether or not. Can somebody enlighten me, please?

Thanks,
Joshua

Even once modified to achieve exact infinity focus, the Rokkor 58/1.2 protrude too far into the mirror chamber and a 5D/MarkII will need a mirror shave to avoid the rear element being hit at infinity.
