p.1 #1 · Nikon G lens to Panasonic G1

G lens has no aperture ring so they are a little harder to use on alternative bodies like the Canon EOS and now the Panasonic G1.

Nikon made this little adapter that fit a Nikkor lens to a C mount (25 mm thread mount) for movie cameras. Some of the adapter has an aperture plunger.

So for the Panasonic G1 since the sensor is so small, the C mount to micro 4/3 adapter works very well with the proper lens.

Hooked those two setup together and now I can fit any Nikon G lens to my Panasonic G1 body.

I also fitted an end from a Nikon shutter release for my old F2 and threaded the inside for a 3 mm nylon screw. Now I can adjust the aperture by turning the nylon screw.

I just leave the G1 on aperture priority mode and turn the screw until I get the shutter speed I want for a proper exposure.

Pretty cool trick.

So I figured I will give it a try and put my Sigma 30 mm f1.4 with Nikon mount on the adapter. The Sigma 30 is just like the Nikon G lens with no aperture ring.

The result is not too bad. I have not been using the Sigma 30 on my Nikon D90 since I bought the Nikkor 35 mm f1.8G DX lens. So this breathe new life into the Siggy 30.

That hole in the adaptor looks too small for large exit pupils, like the one of the Sigma. You'll probably gain some speed (and blur) if you grind it to let all of the light through.

Very Ingeneous. I like the way you control the aperture. I modified a Nikon to Canon FD adapter to control the aperture on Nikon G lens. Works similar to 16-9 adapter in I have to rotate the adapter to control the aperture.
