p.1 #1 · Funky Bokeh?!

I was messing around with my new Voigtlander 58 yesterday after using my macro lens. I just wanted to know what you folks thought of this image and the bokeh....funky or what?!
I focused right on the small bud next to the rock that's bent sideways.

That is EXACTLY what I was thinking. The focus is dead on but I have never seen bokeh like this.

It must be the 1.4 aperture?

the 75/1.5 biotar is the poster child for that kind of bokeh, I think. ;-) A lot depends on the scene, it has to be busy to do it that way (Swirly) I believe.

Yes CZJ 75 1.5 biotar could make you a bit dizzy. There is another one lense russian helios 40 and 40-2 85 1.5 which was made based on biotar calculations

here is an example on 5D

Nice shot I am kind of looking at that lens actually - just a bit big and expensive. And rare, actually. It has something like 20 blades doesnt it? Amazing design.

Other posts from the Voigtlander 58/1.4 show less swirl, but they are not focused as close. Looks like this was done with the lens focused at/near its minimum distance. If an accessory was used (extension tube, diopter lens), it could also have an effect on the bokeh.

Yes, the lens was used at it's minimum distance (I mean probably within 1/4") to be exact. I was going to go out today and do it a little further away and at like f/4 but we are getting torrential downpours all afternoon. Gotta love Spring!
