p.1 #1 · [fixed] Rokkor 58mm f1.2 hazy.

I was wondering if the issue would be due to the slight damage on the rear element of the lens. When I dial up to f/2 the issue is mostly resolved. Or is it the fact that I am not focusing correctly or exposing due to the large aperture?

Here is an example of the issue.

f/1.2

f/2

never mind, figured out the reason.

I recently bought a rokkor 58mm f1.2 on ebay for 260, and the guy said it was dreamy wide open. I thought, this couldn't be an issue with the lens. I knew the rear lens would have slight marks on it but also knew it should effect image quality.

I was looking at the glass and though it was a little dirty and took it apart to clean. Put it back together and it was the same. I was thinking, maybe I should flip the rear lens and see what happens, and Voila! fixed.

Here is a sample wide open now, I am currently trying to get an EE-S screen for my 5d to fix MY focusing issues. But this is what I got so far. A LOT better!

That's what I thought - actually I thought some elemet misalignment after cleaning. Your case was an extreme misalignment glad you fixed it. Congrats!

How do you remove the rear element? It seems very securely mounted.

you unscrew the the rear lens retainer ring. Probably have to use some tool, but has been done on all my rokkors - 4 or 5 by now.
