It seems that to take a picture at any aperture OTHER than wide open, I have to simultaneously hold the DOF button on the lens WHILE I press the shutter release on the camera.
The adapter came with a screw that extended in the way of the aperture mechanism, preventing it from operating. I removed the screw and am manually holding in the lens DOF button.
Is this normal protocol for using the Oly Zuiko on a Canon 1D MK II?
It is a bit of a PITA to shoot like this ... am I doing something wrong ... or is this just the Oly way?
(I've been shooting my CZ C/Y 80-200 & 35-70 by simply adjusting aperture ring and either shooting manual or Aperture priority ... DOF / metering has played along REAL NICE.)
Thanks,
Kent
Note: The pic is a snap of my wife's fabric ... the lens is NOT a macro, but at less than 1 foot MFD and the resolution ... I'm liking it. I've PP the image only a very little amount of brightness -2, contrast 10 ... very, very small curve adj ... USM @ .55 (my standard from RAW)

Try to put the screw back. It is supposed to do the opposite to what you are describing.
By mounting the adapter properly with the screw at place it will hold the lens' aperture pin in the stop down position letting you control the aperture opening by operating the aperture ring only.
You can see this work if you mount the adapter to the lens. The stop down button will then be obsolete as the lens acts as if it was pressed all the time.
you can use it either way - w or w/o the screw. Depends on your preference. I know people who do it both ways, depending on what they are shooting. using it the way you are doing it is like a preset lens, and has some advantages.
I bought a new car, but I don't like the rubber is all over the bottome of the car, near the corners, so I just took these "wheel" things off, and now the car looks great, but I have to push it around...is this right!!
I was showing some different pics to non-photo types (i.e. family) and they pointed out a 3-D look to a couple of pics. It's not a CZ 21mm, but it wasn't $2,000 either, so I'm really stoked about it.
I'm liking the richness of the colors too ... will have to get a CPL to see what amazing things this little jewel will do ... especially if I get serious with it (i.e. tripod), instead of just shooting from the hip.
I think I might be a convert ... will have to get more alt lenses to be sure
I'm shooting on a Canon 1D MK II Digital EOS . . . but it feels a whole lot like old school when your turn that aperture ring . . . it just feels RIGHT . . . and looks good too.
