All are cropped at least 75%, because I was using a 55-200VR on a D90.

Welcome to the forum and congrats on your first birdie pics here.
The first BJ and the first woodie are my top pics. I agree its difficult to get really good ones with a 200mm unless you are really close.
But keep clicking and posting

Nice first birds. I don't know much about the Nikon system but looks a tad soft and 200mm max won't get you very far. Nonetheless, you're on you way! Now go out and shoot some more!

well, it would be soft, because these are almost 100% crops! 70-90%. The originals, the birds were just tiny little specks!

Thanks though

Welcome to you and your 'first birds'

Great to have you here! You have done well getting your shots and obviously getting closer is only going to help the image quality. Also a bit closer will help the accuracy of the autofocus of the camera. Looks like your exposures are very good Just keep applying your best techinque, when you get a good close one you will be very excited at how well it will look without having to crop so much.

Welcome!
Focus look good and I'm sure after the great advise in these other replies you will be practicing your stalking technique

Perhaps a bit of practice on some less aloof birds will help

Look forward to your next set

Tom

Not bad for heavy crops! Shooting birds can be very expensive, you're never long enough...tough on the wallet, eh?!
Welcome and keep 'em coming.

Not bad at all for heavy crops. I like #1 the best. Keep them coming.
