Brants, for some reason these guys fascinate me. They winter in the Puget Sound area and summer on Melville Island Canada. I do wonder what they think when they come down here for the winter after living in such a remote place all summer.
Anyway I got it in my mind to try to get portraits of these guys before they move on. This past Sunday between vicious rain/ice pellet squalls we had brilliant sunshine so I dashed on down to the beach to see if I could find them. I did find them but I also found 30+ mph steady winds with gusts way higher. Not the best weather to be shooting with a super tele It was fun anyway fighting the wind and trying to get the shots.

Nice, Tim! They are such beauties. I had a go at the ones on my side today--but came up empty handed. They are difficult to get right. You did well!
Ah Bonnie! Yes indeed these buggers are hard to capture!!
Thank you so much for the good words, they mean a lot.
I knew this post would not be popular Nothing stunning about it. Just tough birds to capture and that is hard to relate to.
Way to get the shot my intrepid friend It was crazy crazy on Sunday!!
Love the drops of water blown off the head in #2, really conveys the situation
Favorite is the last frame with the bird hunkered down, really like the compo here too
Surfer Brandts it looks like Tim, lots of water action going on buddy I do like #'s 3,4 best. Great work in some tricky conditions, wind, water and 700mm+ Last shot shows a nice range of browns Tim, and they look clean
Excellent work Tim. I recently saw a pair of brandts for the first time. They were seen in Iowa last fall for few days and kept the local birdies busy.
