Lovely series with your usual great timing and sharpness. #2 is my favorite thanks to the effort that the face reflects. Maybe I'm just turning into a grimace fetishist?
Russ really nice stuff. You can't beat the look of the 200F1.8 just beautiful backgrounds in #3 & #6. But the shot for me is #8 love the perspective, timing DOF and it really likes the B&W treatment.
I also enjoy your work Russ and appreciate the skill it takes to get those shots.
Just curious about when you use the watermark on your work. I've been trying to come up with something I can put of the front of prints that identify the shooter (me or my company), but don't detract from the image.
I've seen some print work, at silent auctions, done of NFL and MLB players and from some colleges that have some graphics and their respective logos incorporated into the image and that colorful little graphic and id adds a little something extra to the look of the photo.
Maybe makes it seem a little more professional or "special".
Do you sell photos that have had or will have your logo on them?
Thanks again for your frequent posts and contributions to the sports forum!
I was surprised to see this post resurrected from the archives, and I do appreciate the very encouraging feedback. I won't be shooting gymnastics until January of 2010, and I look forward to six home meets. This definitely gets me excited about it, and I've already been thinking about what I might do differently, which becomes more and more of a challenge with each passing year--same arena, same four events, same photographer, yada yada. With luck there'll be a couple of new gymnasts to provide a bit of variety. And then I have to factor in that the more 'different' my shots, the less likely the SID is to like them .....Like I said, I've started to think about all of this, but it's still a couple of months out. Nice to know there's an audience for the photos, and I will be calling on your feedback when the time comes.
Willy: Thanks for the kind words. I do not sell images with my logo. And I can't say I necessarily intended to add an 'extra look' to my photos by watermarking them with my logo, but this original post did happen to coincide with my finally designing a logo I was satisfied enough to move forward with, so that's why I used it.
You know what? (And this isn't something that happens in too many threads I check out)... I love every single one of these. Wow, Russ, you got this whole jim-na-stix thing down pat man.
Add me to the list of people diggin' your new ensignia too. Nice stuff. You don't need to pay no stinking designer man, heck you got a winner right there.
