Well did some testing in the park today, little too bright, but I'm still undecided about its performance with AI-servo. With my 200/2.8 it was giving me pretty good results, but with my 100-400 is was mediocre. This may be more a matter of lens, technique and conditions than the body, since I am not experienced / comfortable with using anything beyond 200mm.
Just an update (for the record) my 24-70 was returned on monday with a new focus ring. Did only one quick test at f/2.8 indoors through the zoom range (24-28-35-50-70mm) and it looked spot on, at least with the center AF-point.
Will take more time to decide wether the 1D3 is all that it should be, but with the added bonus of testing all my lenses. Not rushing it, body is under warranty, and I have all the paper work.
All in all Canon made an effort that I still value as a customer.
