John, what would you expect the police officers to do at a fire location. Their role is to secure the site, make sure firemen are not obstructed and the public is safe. They also conduct interviews in relation to the fire. Other then that they need to be there until the emergency passes. This is not a cop show with gun fights and and chasing robbers or drug dealers. Never the less it is still work.
I was a career firefighter for almost 29 years and my brother was a cop. The barbs were endless but always in good humor. It was the same on the street and is almost universal for police and firefighters to throw each other humorous insults. When the crap hits the fan, we support each other with great respect and are as close as brothers and/or sisters.
I agree with coffee stain too. I was a career firefighter for 24 years and most of it was in the fire investigation unit. I got to play with both sides and have great friends from both. But I can't resist a good jab. BTW, they won't let the policemen have lunch at Burger King here anymore.
