I agree. A 17mm TS-E is undoubtedly an astonishing optical achievement. So astonishing in fact that I am temped to believe the rumors of the Nikon 10-18/4 for FF are true.
My only hope is that it would not be vulnerable to flare. Such a front element without a lens hood is really asking for trouble. The Nikon 14-24/2.8 has impressive sharpness but it is rather prone to flare, probably because of that bulbous front element.

Ehh.. I'm a little lost on this.
How do you get 126° when the Sigma 12-24mm goes only to 122° ??
Does it mean that that it includes the swivel into the total FOV ?? Or does it mean it can cover that FOV in 1 shot ?
In any case, it would make for a fantastically wide option for its intended purposes, though will be a limited in its us for 'environmental' shots when you can't really hang around and setup a tripod...
You can not shift a normal lens because a) it has not the ts mechanics and b) because the usable angle must be larger than the angle you need to cover the 24-36 frame. 126° is the usable angle, 104° is the angle you get when looking through the viewfinder
These look awesome. The prices make the current TS-Es look like a steal (which they are, they've been a bit underpriced vs. their value for a while I think). The 17 is a very impressive accomplishment. Some pretty brilliant lens design here. At least they haven't (yet?) wasted time doing something like a 24-70L IS or 135L IS for the whiners that think they *need* such a thing, and instead are breaking new ground on something that actually did need adressing (their wide angle lineup). It would be nice if they fixed the 50 1.2L though.
Wow, check out these MTFs (From the Canon Japan site, not the crap ones that the USA is including on their PR):
17f4 TSE looks very impressive. The tilts/shifts just seem like a bonus. Check the f8 lines! Thats 300/2.8L-caliber good. ;-)
24TSE looks impressive too.
Also here are the optical diagrams. Some damn impressive glass work there, esp. the 17. That is shaping up to look like a must-have on paper at least. (damn it's expensive.)

Why does Canon announce new products in places like Amstelveen, the Netherlands, when the PMA show is in Las Vegas? I've seen this kind of thing on several announcements over the last few years.
I suppose that's because you probably read the european press release and canon have their european hq in amstelveen the netherlands. For the states that would be Lake Succes, NY.
The 17 with Tilt/Shift would be great for architecture. I use my 17-40 a lot for 17mm shots but would love the tilt/shift and a little bit more sharpness would be great--if the quality is there this could be a bread and butter lens for tight interiors...but holy crap that is expensive! Same price as a 5D II??!!

I dont think anyone can say that a lens costing >$2000 is a steal. Not unless they just won the lottery!
