As for the OT it's nice to let us know about your multiple issues, however it may be simpler to ask Canon CPS or the nearest service center to fix it
Items that are sold broken or incomplete are returned directly to the seller for an exchange or refund. That is how it works over here. Warranty is for taking care of malfunctioning after the purchase. So, there was no need to contact CPS or Canon Service about it

I've got my 5D2 for a week.... today it's gone to Canon. It refuses to power on. Fully charged battery, tried another battery at the shop.... nothing. If only I didn't have all those lenses...
I live in Switzerland. We don't have the same "liberal" return policy here as you have in the USA... As soon as it's out of the shop it's yours. Whatever happens has to be dealt with under warranty.And I don't even start with Canon customer service in Switzerland.... In fact it's not even Canon as they subcontract it to a company which is repairing lawn mowers and washing machines as well !!!!...Show more →
The new Canon service outfit in Switzerland is Sertronics in Spreitenbach and Gland. They also took over Chako in Delemont where I used to get very good service. Apparently Sertronics services for Canon in other countries, so maybe they have experience. They say a repair or lens calibration turn around should be within a week. That would be a lot better than IT Services.
No place I know of in Switzerland has the 5D Mark II yet, do tell your secret source.

Don't exaggerate the risk. The vendor or Canon are sure to replace or repair it. If you have the patience.
My 5D2 doing OK so far.
Poor dude has gotten 3 out of 3 cameras that were bad. These aren't exactly free either. this is unacceptable to have even 1 with a problem, but 3 in a row, that's just horrific.

I understand that, but considering how many people have a good one first time, there is no question that he has been unlucky, and if he perseveres he will eventually end up with a good one, which I think will still be worth waiting for. I'm not apologising for Canon, but in these situations one just has to persever (or switch to Nikon).

Richard, Richard.....ever since we have severed our political umbi cord with the mothership Albion, the English English language has been sadly deteriorating. Severing one's patronage of Canon amounts to switching to Nikon in 9 cases outta 10 innit ?
'Tis sweet and commendable in your nature, Hamlet,
To give these mourning duties to your father:
But, you must know, your father lost a father;
That father lost, lost his, and the survivor bound
In filial obligation for some term
To do obsequious sorrow: but to persever
In obstinate condolement is a course
Of impious stubbornness; 'tis unmanly grief;
It shows a will most incorrect to heaven,
A heart unfortified, a mind impatient,
An understanding simple and unschool'd:
Hey, I am the English Literature major here (Univ of Florida 1973). Leaving the quoting to me will ya...Here is what Daan is thinking about Nikon now:
"Heard melodies are sweet, but those unheard
Are sweeter; therefore, ye soft pipes, play on;
Not to the sensual ear, but, more endear'd,
Pipe to the spirit ditties of no tone:
Fair youth, beneath the trees, thou canst not leave
Thy song, nor ever can those trees be bare;
Bold Lover, never, never canst thou kiss,
Though winning near the goal—yet, do not grieve;
She cannot fade, though thou hast not thy bliss,
For ever wilt thou love, and she be fair!"

Don't be critical of the 5D. I said that it wasn't perfect on another thread and a whole lotta whingers started complaining about the internet and pixel peeping and God knows what. Just keep quiet and stop sharing your experience. We've got to stop this internet thing.
I agree 100% but what I see here needs to be out to see what the heck is going on!!

Wow, Canon workers have a short gestation period. Isn't it normally nine? Maybe they're in a rush to get reproduct to market.
Premature babies always have problems, maybe they are rushing the 5D II out the door to try and meet demand and the consumers are the ones getting screwed, not Canon employees.
