Did you try some faster shutter speeds? Any flash shots?

It is difficult to shoot sx/ax indoors, but to me, bumping the SS up would have helped in less motion blur of the riders themselves.

You going back again tonight?

Thanks J-bo, I didn't use the flash, tried a few in the practice and could not seem to get it right. I also have back problems and my back was out last night so I won't be going back tonight. At 800 iso that seemed to be as fast a shutter speed as I could get, I knew that iy should be faster but I was hopeful that I might get a few. It was fun nonetheless!

Fun for sure. With the 1dIII I would have figured you could have gone to ISO 1600 and use fill flash and get a 1/1000 SS or around there, especially with the great high ISO performance of that body from what I've read..

I finally got a 1dII so I'm hoping I can shoot 1600 and get less noise than my rebelxt from before when I hit the Houston and N.O. SX.

Take some ibuprofen and get back out there!!!!!!!! You did have a media pass right and were on the floor?

Are you putting what you took up on a gallery? OOOPS..nevermind, I went to your SM site and see them. Thanks for posting them up!

This is taken with a rebelxt at ISO1600, 1/800 ss at 3.2 with fill. So I would have figured the 1dIII could even go with a higher ISO. I'm thinking of getting one if the high ISO is that much better than the 1dII.

WOW! I am just so paranoid about using a higher ISO, I guess that I just need to do it!!! 800 looks grainy to me, but maybe I am just too picky! I will have to try it and see!

Are you using any kind of noise reduction? I don't notice ANY noise in the pictures you posted, given they aren't full screen, but at the size they are on my screen, I don't see any, and in the last one you just posted, I only see a little color noise in the dirt that it in the air. I just shot an indoor track meet, and I was shooting my 40d, with noise reduction on, at ISO 1600, and only having to do minor noise reduction in Photoshop. SO with the 1d MK III I would Imagine that ISO 1600, or even 3200 is fine. Oh, and just to let you know, I am also VERY picky about noise, I absolutely hate it, just remember that when you edit the pictures at full screen, you see a lot more noise than when they are reduced to 800x600 for web use.
