p.1 #1 · Once in a lifetime nature event

A heads up for wildlife and landscape photographers.

If the monsoons in Northern Australia keep it up it looks like the the Channel Country rivers such as Coopers Creek, the Diamentina and the Georgina (Mt Isa down to Lake Eyre. Get out your atlases) will flood.

Only happens every 10 to 12 years and the wild flowers and the bird life that explodes following these floods is quite extraordinary. A desert comes to life is another way of describing it

For those who may be able to make it, keep an eye on the situation as it it one of those once in a lifetime opportunities, especially with the aud$ down as it is at the moment and the airlines scrabbling to fill seats.

Sounds great. I've always wanted to go to Australia. But, your life spans there must be awfully short if a once in a lifetime event is every 10 to 12 years.

Love to but Another FMer has to do it. I have a project to get off the ground in the Autonomous Region of Bougainville which has taken far too long and if I am ever going to find the finance and the time to indulge myself and maybe become a useful photographer I will be on Bougainville.
the Monsoon hasnt punched far enough to the south yet to get the Cooper flowing but the Diamentina and the Georgina are running and that is a good start
If anyone gets the urge to go there is a school friend of mine who was one of the last cattle drovers. You can google him: Jack Sammon. Bush poet. his e is jsammon@bigpond.net.au
He has ridden a horse across all of that country and is retired. If you need someone as a guide you wont have to ask twice
