p.1 #3 · How to get a second shooting/assistant gig
Miney, whats basically been said before (you'll find this in searching) is to look at your local photographers, find someone whose work you really admire, and give them a call. Most likely, you won't be 2nd shooting right away, but assisting (schlepping gear, being a light holder, etc). This isn't grunt work... pay attention to how the photographer poses the people, uses the existing light, where he has them (what's so special about that place), etc...

Just email local photographers. I did, and after seeing my website the lady replied and said she was planning an intern program and I was at the top of her list So soon I will be getting to carry gear and maybe take a couple pics

How does one go about getting a second shooter gig? Any advice?
Contact a few local photographers, take them out for beer/wings/lunch. Chat, keep in touch. Ask if they need a 3rd/assistant. Work a few gigs. Ask if they need a 2nd. Work more gigs.

Show up at my studio door (after having taken the assisting course offered by the local rental house) with enthusiasm, no odor and the good sense to not speak unless asked a direct question.
