Congrats wish I could have made it out but my schedule did not permit. NU has had a great season so far and am glad they start back up at Home this week-end. I am looking forward to covering the rest of the season and hopefully playoffs starting at home.
What happened with Thiessen's penalty for delay of game? In the NHL it is automatic but in college or at least in the east it is up to the ref's descretion. it is unfortunate that a call like this had so much to do with the end result.
The only thing I've heard that is close to an explanation for the Delay of Game call is that the WCHA follows more closely to the NHL standard when there is variance between the two. Having said that, I was also stationed at the other side of the rink than Thiessen for the call, so I have no indication if the officials felt it to be more intentional than incidental. Unfortunately, the game ended up on that note.
NU played a great game, very fast and physical, and kept Minnesota off balance a lot. I'd expect to see them in the playoffs.
