p.1 #1 · Kingston 8Gb gives trouble with 1d mk III

hiya,

I've got a bit of a weird problem: recently I've acquired a 2nd hand 1D mark III from Calumet. Tested and looks ok.

Last Friday I've gotten hold on some Kingston Elite pro 133x 8Gb CF cards. Mainly for my 5d mk II. They work fine in this camera, and also in my older 5d mark I.

In the 1D however, it's big trouble: files become unreadable after trying to copy them to an image tank, shooting a burst may cause the camera to hang, etc. The other cards I have (sandisk Ultra II 2 and 4 Gb, Transcend 133x 4Gb) work just fine with the 1D; no problems at all.

Could it be faulty cards or a faulty 1D?

Hi,

I had the exact same problem with those Kingston Cards on my Mark 3. Called Kingston and they replaced it under warranty saying it was a bad card. However, the replacement they sent did the same thing as well. It now lives in my old 5D. I picked up some Lexar 8GB 233x cards for the Mark 3 now. Just wanted to let you know you are not alone in this weird behavior.

ah, thanks! I'm going to Brazil to make a trip photo report for a travel agency so I'm kinda freaked out

Got some extra Sandisk cards for my 1D mark III; the kingston card will go into the 5d then and guess it's gonna be Sandisk next time as well.

You are very welcome. Have a great trip to Brazil!

On a side note, I have a Kingston 8GB SDHC Class 6 card in the second slot of my Mark 3 and have no problems with it at all. So weird.

This is not a unique problem as I have had something similar...image reords OK on card in camera but corrupts after a short period of time. Can be recovered on PC with rescue software

Cards replaced but issue remains and so far only with Kingston 8 gb cards all other cards fine in the 1d m3 and the 8 gb are ok in my 30d

Just one more thing that makes you just love Canon, everyday brings something new

I've ALWAYS had trouble with Kingston Elite cards. For the way we shoot: 1D series for 100 shots in 2 minutes and then download every 3-4 minutes - the Kingston cards will lock up the readers because they get two hot. Even the camera card compartment is hotter than any other camera/card brand.

They sound like their fine for smaller frame rates (slower writing/reading), but when you hit the gas, they burn up.

Stick with Lexar or Sandisk.
