p.1 #1 · An Intro - My Best of 2008 V-Twin Drag Racing
Hi there. Just signed up to FM, and I'm really impressed by the quality of images here on the sports forum. Wanted to introduce myself through my work (hope this linking works).

They are all incredible. What was the outcome of number 5?
Thanks. It was a nitro fire from a breach in the cylinder-head/cylinder fire ring mating surface and the head and cylinder were pretty well ate up. He replaced entire powerplant in the 1 1/2 hours between rounds, qualified next round, and went to the semi-finals the next day. Said he didn't even feel the heat. And bought a lot of copies of the image.

Nothing like a little nitric acid and propane to make those explosions spectacular. Likewise your capture of these v twins are. Are you selling onsite.

Thanks Beau. Not printing and selling onsite yet. That would be a huge boost in revenue but not really manageable as a sole operator. I sell primarily through my SmugMug account, but knowing some of these guys don't have internet access I print some of the best from one race and bring to the next.
I was a racer with this sanction until a near-fatal crash in 2006, and my family (and I guess the racers too now) are happier with me behind the lens instead of in front of it lol. The sanction loved my work and picked me up immediately as their official shooter, and I probably need to build on that with more diversity and more venues.

I pretty much had figured out that you were either a racer transitioning to shooting or an ex racer. Anyway congrats on your work like I said and welcome to the board.
BTW I met and shot Mr Tritt back in the day (film). He was one more class act.

Mike,
Welcome to the FMSC. Photo #5 really kicks. I also really like photo #2. The bike in photo #7 looks like a really tricked out machine. Forgive my ignorance - are these guys doing 1/4 miles? What kind of times/speeds do these turn in? Looks like quite a ride.

Thanks Patrick,
Yes, these are all Harley drag bikes racing on 1/4 mile tracks. Many different classes shown, but the top class (Top Fuel, images #2 and #3 of the first set, and the first and last of the second set) run on nitro-methane fuel and run as quickly as 6.15 seconds in the 1/4 at speeds in excess of 230 MPH. It's not unusual for them to run the entire 1/4 mile on the rear tire and wheelie bar, and force the front tire down just as they cross the timing lights at the top end.
Junior Pippin's bike in #7 is a NHRA Pro Stock bike which he brought to this race and ran in our Pro Gas class. He and Matt Smith (the "Nitro Fish" NHRA PSB racer) were running in the high 6-second range, which ain't bad for a bike on gasoline.

...there are plenty of Buells there already, especially in the Sportsman classes. Heck, I even have one. Junior was a long-time champ in AHDRA and they love him. Now the G² bikes, that's a whole other story.
