Yesterday the 4th Tim,. Ken H and I were at Bolsa Chica as you may have read in Tim's thread it was a slow day which gave me an opportunity to have a shoot out between 1DKIII/400DO and 50D/600IS combination. Needless to say I was very impressed with the result. 1DMKIII won the focusing, and ISO contest but 50D produced an amazing IQ and detail.
50D was set at 200 ISO and 1DMKIII at 400 ISO both camera in servo mode.
Lets start with 50D and Canon 600IS lens at 200 ISO on a wimberly.
great varitey buddy >> Heck Tim said it was Dead >> Looks like it was a bit more
active than we were led to believe
Great variety and some good wildlife
Great combo having the 50D and Mark III >> I use the Mark III and Mark II N but have been thinking of dumping the Mark II N for a 50D for the crop factor and pixels..........
Just not sure I can give up a 1D series body for a ProSumer body........
OOH Garen love this stuff. Great comparison!! Sure the 50d is not up the mklll but it does quite well.
Without going on with a bunch of blowhard crap () 5 has got to be my favorite shot. I love those females and they are indeed hard to capture. I had no idea they ate clams!!
Great shots and info to sit and chew on. Well thought out post, we need more of these from you talented guys with various toys
Tim
Hey Ant, dump the mkll. I would love that body for IFs.

Garen,
It does not look like it was slow for you, the 50D with the monster pulled in
some faraway shots with that crop factor, nice job.
Tim
Thanks Tim, that crop factor and the pixel density was the reason that I got the 50D, looks like one of the best 1090 dollars I have ever spend photography wise.

Garen, it is very hard to see any big differences in IQ here between the two cameras! Nice work!!!
Thanks Brenton, with the same lens at 100-400 iso I believe 50D will give us noticeably more detail.
This is a crop of a full image at 7.1 see the amount of feather detail it is insane. It sure gives my 1DSMk2 run for her money. http://garenm.smugmug.com/photos/449879667_mtLpx-X3.jpg
This is a great display of two high quality cameras. Images produced by
these cameras are just stunning. But you're the one who knows how to
pull the best out of the cameras.
Garen, These are outstanding images on both camera bodies. So this leads me to the question?? How much, if any, post processing was done to these images? The detail, sharpness and color is outstanding.
