p.1 #1 · The last flower of summer.

Hello, everyone:

Summer was hot, but sometimes it rained and cooled things off a bit. This picture is one of the last ones I made with my 20D before moving on to another model.

Comments and suggestions are most welcome.

Thanks, Maury

Hey Maury,

My comments are meant in the most positive of tones and meant to help

Rarely do flower images look good pointing straight down on them. Of course rules are made to be broken and the rule does not always apply. The center of focus or the focal point your trying to emphasize should normally be placed near the rule of thirds.

I think if you had taken the image from a lower perspective, and added a bit of angle across the flora it would have worked a little better.

Try to find an angle that gives you a nice Blurred BG and some interesting BG Colors.
Try to place the center of interest near the rule of thirds.

On a positive not I really like the colors you have captured. Very vivid wonderful color/tones.

On a final note you may want to post this image larger than what you've provided here.
A typical image is 800pixles on the long side all the way up to 1200 pixels on the long side. 900 - 1000 is a nice middle ground.

Good luck and happy shooting
Hope to see you post again and I look forward to it.

Anthony:

Thanks for your comments. I appreciate the advice and will start to use your suggestions. The dof with this particular lens seems so shallow, that it is difficult to have most of it in focus. Maybe that's the problem-the coi is missing by not using the rule of thirds!

Anyway, thank you for the information.

Maury
