Worked on sharpening, noise, and color space on the bird. I think it is some kind of a sparrow, not sure of the flavor. Found this old flower shot that I thought ant might appreciate.

Nice improvement on the sparrow, Ant-flower That one might be a bit on the yellow side of the WB. BG is pretty clean on that one and you have pleasing sharpness on the flower, bottle brush looking variety

#1 looks a tad oversharpened to me - artifacts in the OOF areas. If you're working with an Adobe image processor that includes the Smart Sharpen filter, you might try playing around with the Fade slider on both shadows and highlights. This filter was largely dismissed when it first appeared, but it's a very powerful sharpening aid when you start to play with it.
