Good job on both. I'd make the background darker, but that's a nitpick. Don't put a border around the team name in the first poster. You'll lose some if not all of the border on three sides when it's printed.

Everything else looks good.
I figured that out after trying to get it printed and matted just right
They look good the only thing is be careful about the edges in the second one if they are going to frame it appears you don't have enought room. Paul's right make the background darker it will make the images pop more.
Wow. Great first effort. I agree with Paul about bringing the background up just a bit. I'd personally like to see it seem less white and more muted color (if that makes any sense to you). I love the fonts and the creative layouts. The cutouts will be a lot of work, but the result is worth it. Make sure (as you've done here) that your main photos show the player facing 'in' on the poster. If you have a nice shot that you want to use that has him/her facing the other way, just mirror the rest of the poster and flip it to the other side. I especially like how your main cutout in the first one overlaps the filmstrip and bottom text. These both really work for me. Great stuff. Thanks for posting.
I think they look great. The colors pop and the cutouts are very clean. My only slight nitpick would be to clone the grass off the ball in #1. I would also agree about the edges. At my Costco I always loose about a quarter of an inch all the way around when printed borderless... plus a mat is slightly undersized.
Are these "handmade" using PS or a template? I've never done posters and like the look and idea, but don't think I have the time or skills to make all those elements.

They are mostly handmade using PS CS4. I looked at a lot of examples here and borrowed some ideas, and the filmstrip 'frame' was a download I found.
It's really not that time-consuming to do once you get the hang of it, other than making the cutouts. I've been trying different plugins for that, but it still takes work to make them look good.

Thanks to everyone for posting comments and suggestions, I really appreciate it. I never would have even had the idea to do these if not for reading fm.
I think I like the 'less-white' version a bit better, and the 'don't frame the edges' advice made a lot of sense.
The hardest part was the cutouts, as folks have mentioned. Is there a preferred tool for making them? These were done with PowerMask in CS4, I'm only just starting to figure that out.
kendenton - I like the last background better (especially against the white uniform), but really they're all very good and very creative. Parents would love something half as good.
I just realized that the name font has a transparent element in it - it's much more evident with the new background. Is that a custom font?
I did some cutouts using Mask Pro 4.1 (demo) and really liked it, but it's a bit on the expensive side for the amount of use I would get out of it (around $150.00). I'm an Elements user and I found the tools there to be adequate in all but the most demanding areas (such as hair).

Thanks!

It's called Allstar, downloaded it from www.fontriver.com

I don't have Elements, so I guess I'm on the lookout for a good masking tool.
