p.1 #1 · Olympus FTL (M42) lenses/advice (?)

Apparently the old Olympus screwmount system for the FTL camera is not the same as the typical ("universal") screwmount, like the Takumars, et. al. I discovered this today when I bought a 28mm Olympus FTL lens. It does in fact fit into an M42 adapter, but a tiny pin on the back prevents it from lying perfectly flat, plus if I do try to screw it in as far as I can the aperture ring will no longer turn because it is tight against the adapter. I looked on Ebay, there are a couple adapter for Olympus screwmount to EOS. But now I have a couple questions, and I could greatly benefit from any advice:
--is the adapter really designed to work properly, or does it just accommodate the pin, and will the aperture ring again be too tight to turn?
--does anyone know anything about the quality of the Olympus FTL 28mm in particular, or the FTL lenses in general? I am wondering what the quality here is, and whether it is worth trying to get a proper adapter. Obviously 28mm screwmount lenses are not hard to find--although that being said, I still don't have a really good one. I was hoping this would be it--from what I could tell, it did seem to be a good lenses, but of course I was not able to screw it in properly so I can't really know. Does anyone have an idea how this might compare to something more typical, like say the Takumar 28mm?

Yes, you are exactly right, and I have seen some on Ebay that are noted for Olympus screwmount to Canon EOS. They are a bit more expensive because I guess they are more of a specialty item. So that was in part why I was fishing around to see if anyone had experience with this lens, or Olympus screwmount lenses in general, to determine if it is good enough to spend more money on the adapter--in general, I think Olympus lenses are quite good, but these are apparently the very first ones they ever made for a DSLR system, so who knows. But I have yet to find anyone who says they have used Olympus screwmount.
