p.1 #1 · Other Nikon G lenses used on EOS that are not 14-24mm
I thought I would start another thread for people wishing to share shots using Nikon G lenses that are not the 14-24. We already have an excellent thread and discussion for that particular lens but no discussion or samples using other lenses.
Here is a list of G lenses I'm aware of for full frame:

Here are two shots using the 200-400 at F4 and 400mm. Once the 200-400 is mounted on the adapter and camera you will find that you can not line the adapter up to the white dot. it is between the white and green which makes sense as the lens has minimum F stop of F4 whereas the adapter was designed for the 14-24 which has a minimum of F2.8.

I think the reason not many G lenses are being used with the adapter on Canons is that only the 14-24 is exceptional enough to warrant it. Also, stop-down metering on a zoom lens is less than desirable when fully compatible alternatives exist. For landscape it's tolerable, but I'd be tearing my hair out for just about anything else. I can't begin to imagine how frustrating it would be to use the 200-400VR on a tripod and having to rotate the camera to set the aperture.

Really only the 14-24 and 200/2 are worth bothering with the hassle of G with adaptors. The 200-400 can be had in AI-S form with similar performance (there is a 200/2 AI-S but it's not as good as the VR) and the long lenses aren't any better than the similarly priced Canons.
Note there's a few other FF G lenses, the 28-80, 28-100 and 70-300VR.

The AF 200/2 is better than the AI-S? I often see the older 200/2s going for very reasonable prices on eBay.
Yes, by a fair margin. The AI-S is pretty good, the G VR is at least as good as the Canon 200/1.8L, simply world-class where the AI-S is not. That's one major reason why the AI-S version is reasonably priced.

And, how much of the cost of a Nikon 200-400 is for VR which you are not getting to use?

I agree, I looked at that lens, but having f mounted bodies and reading the various reviews I opted for the newer version. No additional cost for the VR ideally I would use it on my Nikon D700 or Fujifilm but some days I only shoot Canon. At least I now have the option to use it on a Canon body.

In the end your comments are true and valid, but I'm curious if other G adapter users have other G lenses and have tried it out. Most will likely just mount it on the 14-24 and be done with it, as you all pointed out there are equivalent and better alternatives, but if one has other G lens why not try it.
A hassle and frustrating absolutely.
Isn't that what alternative lenses are all about. Trying out all the options.

I understand. No harm in finding out right, I just wonder how many of the adapter users even contemplate doing something like that. Especially since I'm assuming (maybe wrongly) that most of them are died in the wool Canon body users just looking for better wide-angle alternatives.

Thanks I'll add that to my list above.
Just realized I'd forgotten one my my favourites, the 24-85 f3.5-4.5G AF-S. A wee gem of a lens (and along with the 70-300VR, the only good consumer G lenses).

what about the 24-70mm ?
It's a very good lens, but not enough better than the 28-70 AF-S to bother with the hassle of G Adaptation. The 28-70 AF-S is notably cheaper, gives better skin tones and has an aperture ring,

Personally, I would limit that only to the 14-24mm f/2.8G unless you have a Nikon body as well. The price advantage of the 200mm f/2.0 VR over the Canon's couterpart and simply the availability of the 200-400 f/4.0 VR in Nikon lens lineup is negated with the lack of VR if used on a Canon body.
