I just bought two PW Plus II's one for the camera, one for my 430. Then after I bought them I got a good deal on a 580EXII. My question is, would there be any difference if I just bought a transmitter (old version) for the camera and had my two Plus II's on the flashes?
But I suggest you also try the Canon wireless system. It requires no extra equipment, works well in all but the most extreme situations and will allow the use of ETTL or M, high speed flash and remote control of the slave. Click the WWW button and see the tutorial in Canon section on multi-flash use.
Yeah I know I have that option, but hate the flash firing on the camera and don't want to have to buy another for off camera. Would there be any difference other than not having the receiving feature (PWs)?

Both use channels 1-4. The only downside of going with the older version transmitter would be lack of redundancy with the other two you have. But since they are dual purpose thats really not a concern either.
Just curious why you don't like flash on camera in a dual flash scenario.... Have you tried it yet with two flashes? Granted flash on camera sucks for single flash but the same things which make it suck solo (flat, no shadows) actually makes it ideal as a source of fill for an off camera flash. When fill is moved off axis it creates shadows. If fill shadows cross the key light shadows there is no light creating a dark distracting void.
