Biks, welcome to FM and thanks for posting these. I too really like the soft pastel colors in the first shot, but for me there are three main problems with this one.
1) Overall the image appears soft.
2) The perspective distortion is a bit problematic for me.
3. The electric wires for the Christmas lights are really distracting.
For me, the first two would be easily corrected, the third could possibly be done but by someone with better PS skills than I possess.
I really like the second shot a lot. Nice capture. The only thing that is a little distracting for me is the sign with the big 'D', but given that this is a city shot it's not a deal breaker for me. There's something inherently moody/emotional about black and white and this shot works with that nicely.
As for the third shot, my mental jury is still out. Nice capture and interesting architecture but I think I would like more depth of field to bring the entire building into focus. Also, as in the first shot, I'm not crazy about the keystoning of the building, which can be corrected in photoshop.
Hi Biks,
Happy Holiays!
Where are these images from?
1. I'd straighten the verticals, if you have a program to do that.
Needs more contrast, more sharpening as Mark has suggested.
2. I like it. Good composition. I think it would look better if you had more shadow detail. I think it is a processing issue, but wonder if you might have needed a bit of fill flash.
3. Interesting building, leading lines. I'm a fan of this kind of subject. I kinda like the extra scene on the far left, but am mixed about the inclusion of the road or gray walkway on the right. It would be interesting to see a view shot lengthwise along the structure closer to pointed edge of the building. Needs momre DOF, perhaps more contrast.
