Kind of looking for some critique on the black and white aspects more than the image itself, but any critique is welcome!

Here's a go at it - if you object I'll pull the post.

I like the image but tried to get a little more snap in it, especially the foam on the rocks. Also, I was trying to separate or at least introduce a horizon but had trouble with pixelation. I really like B&W, I believe a good B&W is more difficult to achieve than a good color image, but am probably in the minority about that

Bob, i think you did a pretty good job finding a composition that works well in B&W. The foreground is very strong IMO. i agree a good B&W is more difficult and valuable than a good color image. A few criticism i have of this photo: Although it is a unique effect having the water & sky blend like that at the horizon, there seems to be something missing there. It would work best if there was another jagged rock out there half obscured by the mist. That would be a perfect anchor for this shot. The image also appears a little soft. i know you were worried about pixelation so sharpening may not do the trick here, but maybe if you try to mask the areas without detail. i am no expert, just a beginner so take my criticisms with a grain of salt.

Thanks for the advice guys. I agree that a good black and white can be much more beautiful! I tried to take care of a bit of the softness, but may have gone a little overboard. As for the horizon, I too was having trouble with the pixelation even at full size.

I'm not sure about the softness..maybe it was the fog? Maybe it was my Tokina at 12mm. Anyway, here it is.

Corporeal, thanks for the kind comments,

David, very nice

Question: Why ISO 1600? At f10 I'd think the Tokina should be plenty sharp so suspect fog was the issue. I assume it is a 12-24mm?

What does the color version look like?

regards,

Bob

I can't quite remember why it was on ISO 1600, this shot was back in august. :/

Here is the color version, no editing, just resized.

Thanks for the compliment

Edit: and yeah, it was the 12-24mm
