Still waiting for a defect to show up in my 20D before I consider a replacement. After all these years I have only discovered one defect. The guy pushing the shutter release button still has learning issues.

I am not so sure about that, Joshua. When I spoke with Samy's Camera (Peter is looking for a copy) just a couple of days ago they told me they have a backorder of 400 units!
Of course, there is no way of telling for sure, Bobby. The way I look at it is that people express interest and put their name on the waiting list; some even on multiple list for various reasons. When first announced, the economy seemed to do fine but things changed a lot in the last two months or so. A lot of folks gets affected by the economy downturn, directly or indirectly and even if they don't directly feel the strain, most excercise caution if it is coming down to extra spending. Seriously, tell Peter that I think he would be able to buy one readily in the 2nd or 3rd week of January . There are quite a few stores that have the kit (body plus 24-105mm) readily available as we speak. Obviously, Canon wants to sell more lenses and produced more kit than the body alone....
My Canon dealer friend has another 5D Mark II kit (includes 24-105 f4 L IS lens) arriving on Monday and the first one to call him could have it by Tuesday. Or if you live in the DC area, you could pick it up in person on Monday. He only has one body arriving in this shipment. This will be the fourth shipment he's received from Canon, and each time he's received just one body. It seems as if Canon is doling them out slowly, or at least to the smaller dealers.
His name is Lee Richmond and he can be reached at 800-884-1373. You can tell him that Nico sent you.

another one, again?!
You are probably right .... that maybe half of those on the waiting list would drop off, either because they changed their minds or they went elsewhere. No kit for Peter - he just want the body.

Amazon had a few Dec. 18. And by that, I mean actually sold by Amazon, not third party sheep pimps charging $1000 over msrp. Not pointing any fingers, but Pavillion, Tigerdirect, and Cameta should be ashamed. I'm really surprised that Cameta Camera got in on the price gouging, too.
Might wanna hold off for now, Canon acknowledged black dot and banding issue in sraw. If its a problem with the hardware it wont be fun mailing it to Canon.

Given it's sRaw, it's not hardware. Plus, for those of us who don't use sRaw, big deal
I have complete faith that by winter 2012, that every major retailer will have some in stock. That considers the present poor economy. If the economy picks up, then certainly by 2014.
