p.1 #1 · Revisting the Past for better Post Production?

Wedding FM'ers....

I posted this under another thread - then felt like I really wanted a broader response to this thought...

i've been thinking alot lately of previous weddings that I shot way before I had any skill whatsoever in photoshop. I had about 10-12 weddings before I ever had any TRA's for PS.

anyone have any experience of going back and redo-ing post on say a group of Top 40 - and then hitting the couple up for a package price with same photos done up new way?

I'm thinking say of $250 - $350 - for top 40 worked up with TRA's .....

is this a good idea at all?

I have all of the original raw's archived from all of these weddings... so I could go back to those RAW's and really start from scratch now that I am light years ahead of myself from back then in PP.

any thoughts would be greatly appreciated...

I think this is a very tricky proposition. The only way I could suggest tackling this would be maybe to PP one image from the old wedding, getting a 5x6 or 4x6 printed, and sending it as an xmas gift to old clients. If they see a huge difference, they may contact you to ask you about it.... but folks will be wary of the "give me more money" pitch.

Dont take this the wrong way but my first thought as a prior bride would be:

Hi, I didnt process your images as well as I could have origionally so now I want to charge you some more money for the images you already paid me for.

I think you would be better served to give them some new stunning images for free. That would probably get you back in their head and lead to referals which would eventually bring in money for your work.

just my opinion

I agree 1000%....do a few up...and send them for free. The cost to you is maybe $0.25 for each 4x6 and if you're just running actions...time is really nothing and a few bucks for shipping...but in the end it could pay off huge in terms of continuing referrals and maybe reprint orders.

good luck with what ever way you go.

great thoughts and nice to hear from Evan and Gabe... I'm all for building good will and paying it forward - I am an expert in referral marketing and word of mouth - so i love that you've pointed me back that way. I'm sure it will pay off way more in the end and like you've mentioned gives me another chance to get back in touch with them and in contact... I'll have to be delicate with the "hey I can do your post processing better now" thing... but I can spin that in a good way.

appreciate the thoughts....
