It seems to me that if I had a problem with my camera I would look to my dealer or Canon to fix it. It wouldn't make too much difference if others had the same problem so I don't see the reasons for all these post.
Back
Since yesterday morning both flashes (580 and 430) are working, apparently with no reason (the only thing I did was to put the rechargeable batteries to charge)
I know what you are thinking but the batteries wasn't drown, in fact they was charged about 80%.
Now the flashes work's and I have the other same problems I had before (the play problem and sometimes flashes start to fire with no reason or when I press the play or menu button).
karaboom, can you test the camera together with 580?
So, anybody, problems with 5D Mk II and 580 EX II and/or 430 EX II?
If you got the kit lens with your 5DII, zoom out to 105 mm, grab the end of the barrel and rock it back & forth. Barrel wobble. Utter piece o' crap. Now, if you're really anal retentive, shine a penlight down the barrel and peer in the other side. Factory installed dust. Friggen nightmare. Now, replace the lens cap and take some 30 sec exposures at ISO 6400 or higher and enjoy the lightshow of hot & stunk pixels. You're insane by now so I'll help you out. FEDEX those pieces of 5DII camel dung to me and enjoy the new year!

I face the same Body problem as razvanv with my 5D II.
2. Sometimes when I press the play button the image appear on the screen for a fraction of a second and disappear.
No squeeks, rattles or groans from my 5D2. Yesterday was the first sunny day off I've had since getting the camera and I have to say I'm blown away by the quality. I thought I had some sharp pics with my 40D but now I know what real detail looks like.

I received my 5D II yesterday and I have a lot of problems with it.
A. Body
1. The cameras repeatedly loose some of the settings I’ve made.
2. Sometimes when I press the play button the image appear on the screen for a fraction of a second and disappear.
B. Body + 580EX II (tried also in combination with 430EX II)
1. Sometimes when the play button is pressed the flash start to fire + the same problem I noticed when the flash is not attached
2. Occasionally when I use the 580EX as a master and the 430 as slave both flashes start to fire with no reason
3. And now none of the flash don’t fire (I’ve tried various combination without any result) the funny thing is that even in the menu «External Speedlite control» the flash appear to be ok I have no fire at all, anyway sometimes in the same menu when I try to access the «Flash function settings» I get the message “This menu cannot be displayed. Incompatible flash or flash’s power is turned off.” (I assure all that is not the case ).
Unfortunately I will be able to go to the retailer after Christmas and hopefully change it. ...Show more →
The message you received means the flash is powered off or has timed out. Be sure you 1/2 press the shutter release and the ensure the red light on the 580 is illuminated.
Also, the 580 II is known to have contact issues. The change to the slider mount was a mistake IMHO. Try reseating the flash unit. Or better yet replace it with an original 580 and religate the 580 II to a remote unit (that is what I did).

Has anyone encountered any problems with the build quality of the new 5d's? I don't know if there's a thread about this already but I'm starting one anyway b/c my buddy just found out his has an annoying squeak, creak, when you squeeze anywhere around the grip area. then we found out our friend's roommate has the same problem with his 5dmk2! that's already two with similar issues. he was so bothered by it, he made a video to show canon and has already sent it in for replacement.
if you have facebook, here's a short video he made and posted:
if you don't have facebook, just imagine holding your grip..(no bg-e6 attached)... applying average/normal pressure and hearing a squeak everytime you hold it. that would drive me nuts too!
EDIT:
to be clear.. just posting here to see if other OWNERS are experiencing this issue. if not, then this one is probably an isolated situation. if there are a ton of people responding with the same issue, we may be onto something. for those that don't really care about it even if you have the issue, good for you.... keep shootin'!
I've squeezed my MKII six ways from Sunday at just about every imaginable spot and it has no squeaks. Must have been a small batch that got through with the problem?
CF door does make noise under pressure as does panel area around joystick - not a "squeak" though, just enough noise to question build quality. I would compare the noise to that of walking on or approaching thin ice. No concern, great unit. Just not as sound as D1's.
I finally change my first 5d mk II hoping that the new one will have no problems.
Unfortunately this has a new problem, the settings I made under the C1, C2, C3 disappear after I switch off/on the camera. This is very annoying because I want to use this settings.
The 580Ex II flash fire sometimes with no reason (even without pushing any button) problem remains but I think this can be from the flash. Tomorrow I will change the camera again and also the flash.
Reading here about the sounds coming from the camera when squeezed I try and yes in the battery compartment area I hear some noises and also feel small movement of the body material. For me this is not a big problem.
