Has anyone encountered any problems with the build quality of the new 5d's? I don't know if there's a thread about this already but I'm starting one anyway b/c my buddy just found out his has an annoying squeak, creak, when you squeeze anywhere around the grip area. then we found out our friend's roommate has the same problem with his 5dmk2! that's already two with similar issues. he was so bothered by it, he made a video to show canon and has already sent it in for replacement.
if you have facebook, here's a short video he made and posted:
if you don't have facebook, just imagine holding your grip..(no bg-e6 attached)... applying average/normal pressure and hearing a squeak everytime you hold it. that would drive me nuts too!
EDIT:
to be clear.. just posting here to see if other OWNERS are experiencing this issue. if not, then this one is probably an isolated situation. if there are a ton of people responding with the same issue, we may be onto something. for those that don't really care about it even if you have the issue, good for you.... keep shootin'!
i have seen a couple threads on dpreview talking about these creaky bodies so it may not be so isolated.
mine does have a slight creak on the bottom, not the battery door but rather the body around the batt door. it doesnt really bother me and while holding the camera normally i dont really hear anything at all unless i put alot of pressure on the cf door.
No creaks here (I think this is my first post btw, but I've lurked for awhile). I would say that the overall build quality is great, but perhaps not quite as good as my orig. 5D (we're talking highly subjective picking of nits here though).
I had a 20D awhile back that had creaky-CF-door-syndrome (which was pretty common on that camera IIRC). Though not creaky, the door action on my 5DII is perhaps not quite as smooth as my 5D, but I think that may be down to wear or "settling" through long-term use.
I would give the 5DII a 4.5 out of 5 for build quality compared to the orig. 5D with the caveat that I may revise and extend my remarks after a good period of shooting it has gone by.
