You can connect your PW this this cable: http://www.flashzebra.com/wizardcables/elinchrom.shtml
( Say hello to Lon from me)
With Skyports you get an integrated system, remote power control is the main feature. You can even control the RX series from your computer with optional USB Skyport device.
Enjoy your Ranger, you won't be dissapointed!!
My 1Ds3 + Ranger RX + Skyports will only sync to 1/200s. The sync cord will give me 1/250s. If I were you I try if you can get 1/250s with the PW's before you do anything else.
An advantage of the Skyports (besides remote triggering) is that you can activate the modelling light of the Ranger and control the output from your cam/transmitter. Because the modelling light of the Ranger is timer controlled it is very convenient that you can control this remotely (saves you from going to the Ranger everytime you want to activate the modelling light).
Both are excellent wireless triggers. As pointed out the Skyport has advantages in terms of control. One of the often overlooked advantages to their control is the Group/All functionality, which PW does not support. Both have 4 groups with different channels, but only the Skyport allows you to fire each channel separately and trigger All groups together. When using multiple lights, particularly ones in remote or difficult to access positions, you can meter or test them individually and then fire them all for exposure. If you plan on adding additional monolights, Skyport will also allow you to integrate them into a system controlled at the camera. Small is pretty nice too. And for the difference in price, we were able to purchased additional SP transmitters, which are good to have around. The PW do have a greater range, but the SP's can be ganged if necessary.
Well since I have the PW's I picked up the cable that Erik posted link to, should have everything by this weekend if the weather does not slow anything down. Will test the Sync speed this weekend and let everyone know what I get. I have 3 400bx's that I will be adding to. Picked this up for the battery and the short flash duration. I dont think the skyports work with the 400 so might look to upgrade to 600rx's if I decide to go that route.

Perhaps I don't understand your post, Carmen, but PW groups can be fired individually, in subsets, or all at once. The magic word is MultiMAX. In SpeedCycler mode, the MultiMAX fires each group in sequence: I use this mode with the camera's exposure-bracket feature to color balance each light source. It's a bit crazy, but it works.
