Sorry if this is a stupid question but
I have 2 alienbee Flash Units
do i have to use their Softboxes?? I was looking for a 24x 36 softbox
and I'm a litle confused what to buy

you have to get a speedring that will fit the AB heads. and then from there you can get your own modifiers. but if you purchase the new foldable softboxes/octaboxes from Alienbees, you have to use the speedring bc they are attached.
Just buy yourself speedrings from Alien Bees, then get yourself softboxes from other companies.
AB softboxes are pretty good...
I'd say if you want cheaper:
Amvona on ebay *(sometimes you get good deals)
More expensive go for:
Photoflex (might have a slightly better range then AB, esp with internal silver, gold, white panels)
But honestly, AB has a big enough range that a beginner such as yourself (assuming because your asking a speedring question), that you don't need to look anywhere else. They're fairly priced items, and I've never had a problem with my octaboxes/softboxes and I've had them for a long time. And if you buy AB softboxes/octaboxes they come with speedrings!
As I side note, I also have a whole whack of photoflex boxes, and some amvona stuff... A few other brands as well (but I won't confuse you).
